The thought of simply making a trip to Nicaragua is a bit unnerving to many and to consider backpacking through a poverty stricken and politically corrupt country is unheard of. The truth though, is that this is actually a beautiful place to spend time backpacking through. There are gorgeous hidden beaches just waiting to be viewed, vast amounts of quaint places to spend the night for very little money, as well as a wide array of notable restaurants and clubs to experience.

If you backpack to become one with nature and the beauty it provides, Nicaragua will not be a disappointment. Nicaragua has countless natural destinations like active volcanoes, national parks, and wildlife preservations, all of which will give you a unique experience unlike what you will find in the country’s cities.

Though Nicaragua has received a bad rapport in the past; it is relatively safe for those traveling in a group or alone. Just be sensible and caution and you will be as safe as you would be anywhere else. The locals are friendly and happy to talk to tourists. If traveling in humid months remember to bring plenty of insect repellent. But most importantly, the one thing to bring on a journey through Nicaragua is the need for adventure and excitement.

It is hard to imagine such beauty lies in wait with only an approximately a six hour flight from New York City. While backpacking there are hostels available for overnight staying or if you prefer the outdoors, there are many camping sites to choose from.
